Node-H software supports TD-LTE small cells

Node-H GmbH, the leading supplier of small cells software technology, has extended its LTE small cell software solution to support TD-LTE as well as FDD. The initial platform supported is the Broadcom BCM617x5 small cell SoC family. The LTE solution can be combined with Node-H’s existing deployed HSPA+ solution for LTE/HSPA+ dual-mode cells.

(PRWEB) Jun 8th, 2015: Node-H GmbH, the leading supplier of small cells software technology, has extended its LTE small cell software solution to support TD-LTE as well as FDD.The initial platform supported is the Broadcom BCM617x5 small cell SoC family. The LTE solution can be combined with Node-H’s existing deployed HSPA+ solution for LTE/HSPA+ dual-mode cells for enterprise and residential use.

TD-LTE technology differs from FDD because it works with a single band of frequency spectrum, rather than requiring paired spectrum. This makes it easier and more efficient for licensing authorities to identify and allocate spectrum. TD-LTE is already a key driver for small cell deployment in China. This is leading to increased availability of handsets which support TD-LTE, and in turn is encouraging many operators in the rest of the world to deploy TD-LTE. Operators have until now been able to acquire TD-LTE spectrum at relatively low cost. A further driver is the impending availability of a large amount of spectrum at 3.5GHz which will be a common worldwide spectrum for small cells using TD-LTE.

The TD-LTE software scales from the residential use case to enterprise and public small cells. It covers issues such as Radio Resource Management, Self-Organizing Networks, Interference Management and Coordination, and connects to the Evolved Packet Core through the standardized S1 interface. The solution leverages the existing Node-H small cells technology to allow for rapid entry to trial and market deployment, both in LTE-only cells and in LTE/HSPA+ dual-mode cells. Node-H small cells software is deployed at leading worldwide carriers and it is tested with multiple network equipment eco-system vendors.

“TD-LTE, added to our existing FDD-LTE and HSPA+ solutions, provides a compelling portfolio of technologies for small cells”, says Mike Cronin, CEO of Node-H.

Node-H software is deployed in over a million small cells worldwide. Demonstrations of Node-H femtocell features can be viewed at the Node-H website http://www.node-h.com/showcase.html.
